The second trip to the orphanage was incredible. I gave them all of the gifts that i came with which included soccer jerseys and balls, dolls, folder games, clothes, toothbrushes and soap. they were thrilled!! they all seemede so happy to recieve their gifts and it made me feel really good knowing that i was able to do something for someone else and make their life better. I am so glad that i was able and willing to do something like this. I want to thank everyone for their prayers and especially Jean and Amy for the dolls.

June 15, 2009

Today was a very long day. Once again we woke up early. We headed to the beach to go on another boat ride which was awesome. We rode in a glass boat which means the bottom of the boat is glass so you can see all of the fish swimming under you. We went pretty far out into the ocean and then we were able to get in the water and snorkle and see all of the fish. The rest of the day we spent driving back to Nairobi which is about a 13 hour drive

Mombasa

Mobasa is beautiful. There is a great beach and its really warm here. We woke up early this morning to go on a game run. The only animals we saw today were elephants and antelopes. We did see camels on our way to mombasa and on the beach which was interesting. After the game run we headed to the beach and i played soccer with some people which was a blast. We also took a little boat ride that went out into the ocean which was pretty cool. All of the animals that i have pet so far are dogs, cats, cheetah, squirrel, camel, rodent thingy and a crab :)

June 13, 2009

Today has been exciting. We woke up early again and went to the Nairobi nation park. Its weird because most Kenya's have never been to any of the parks even though they are right in their backyards. Steve, who is Evans assistant, was terrified of getting out of the car and it was really funny. In the park we saw all sorts of antelope, buffalo, zebra, hippo, ostrich, giraffes and some little rodent type of thing that i was daring enough to pet and i didnt even get bit!!I really enjoy going to the parks and seeing the animals although i was a little disappointed that we didnt see any lions,l but we are hopefully going to go to a few other parks. Later today we are heading to Mombasa which is where all the beaches are!

June 12, 2009

Today was our first real day in Kenya. We woke up early (5am to be exact) because we are not used to the time difference yet and also because we were supposed to leave our hotel to go to the airport and pick up our luggage that finally arrived. Evans was our ride to the airport but he didnt end up picking us up till about 9 because he was stuck in traffic. If you thought traffic in the states was bad you havent been to Kenya. Im so happy to finally have clean clothes to wear! We ran a few errands around town and then went to the animal orphanage. The animal orphange is where all the animals that dont have parents go so they can be taken care of. This is probably going to be one of my highlights of the whole trip because i got to pet a cheetah!

Nairobi

Well weve finally made it, but our luggage didnt. We checked five bags and none have arrived so we will have to survive another day with only our backpacks until we find our luggage. We are staying at a very fancy guest house as you can tell by the pictures. We have our own little apartment. In the apartment we have a living room and lance and i each have our own rooms and bathrooms. I believe we are the only people staying here which is very nice. It is beautiful outside. There is a nice little courtyard and garden with tables. The people here think it is really cold but its actually gorgeous. Its very temperate and the temperature is perfect and im actually sitting outside at the moment at about midnight. I cant wait to see what tomorrow brings!

Stop #2

ahh Amsterdam. After we landed we took a train to our hotel. We dropped our backbacks in the room and began site seeing. We first took a boat canal around the city. Im pretty sure Lance slept through this or was 'just resting his eyes'. The boat ride was very relaxing. We cruised around and saw some historical sites. When the boat ride came to an end we walked around the streets where all the little shops and cafes are. Next we went to the Anne Frank house which was really cool. By this time we were exhausted so headed back to our hotel for a quick nap. That was pretty much our whole day and it was actually really fun! Amsterdam is beautiful. The weather is perfect. its not too hot and not too cold and stays in the high 60's. An insteresting thing about Amsterdam is that marijuana is legal. We would be walking around on a crowded street and see people rolling joints like it was nothing. Amsterdam is a bit strange but i would definately suggest it if youre looking for a place to vacation.

One very odd thing we saw was a hamburger vending machine. You put your money into the slot and out come the burger of your choice.

Stop #1

We had a quick layover in Minneapolis. I had never seen the mall of america so lance decided what the heck lets go! And off we went to the mall of america. For those of you who dont know what the mall of america is it is one of the largest malls in the world and the largest mall in the country. There is a twin mall in Canada that is bigger by one store but other than that it is exactly the same. The mall is a giant circle of shops and has an amusement park, wave pool and and underground aquarium located in the center. It's huge! We were in a hurry because we didnt want to miss our flight so we didnt get to do anything but we did get to see it!

I took the picture below as we were leaving minneapolis and heading for amsterdam. I happened to look out the plane wiondow and see this beautiful landscape.

Plane Rides

Ive finally arrived in Amsterdam. Wow. I cant believe this is actually happening. The flight over was spectacular. We were able to sit in the buisness elite class. This was amazing! We left Salt Lake on Tuesday morning and arrived in Amsterdam on Wednesday morning so i was lucky to get a little bit of sleep on the plane. The seats were great. We each had our own tv that folded out of the seat and a great selection of movies. Our seats folded all the way down into a bed so it was pretty easy to get some sleep!
